Today we’re cutting the ribbon in Kalundborg and celebrating the opening of a new, first-of-its-kind production facility for our Canadian partner, COMET. The facility will host the production of more than 4 million kilos of high-quality prebiotic fiber annually. It fits brilliantly with our plant’s existing production of 2G bioethanol and lignin and allows a utilization rate of close to 100 percent of the straw, which would otherwise be discarded.

The first-of-its-kind facility uses COMET’s patented upcycling process to produce high-purity arabinoxylan dietary fiber, a sought-after ingredient that previously was not commercially available. The fiber will be used in food, beverages, and dietary supplements.

A perfect fit

Our partnership with COMET dates back to 2021, when we agreed to upgrade and expand our state-of-the-art biorefinery. The facility is part of the Kalundborg Eco-Industrial Park (Kalundborg Symbiosis), an industrial network of private and public companies known for circular economy principles and sustainable practices. Our facility uses renewable power, which enables the ultra-low-carbon production of Arrabina® along with the existing production of biofuel and lignin.

Christian Ree, Chairman of Meliora

”This is a big and much anticipated day for Meliora, and we are very excited about our partnership
with COMET. Adding COMET’s production of dietary fiber to our existing production enables an
unprecedented utilization rate of our raw material. It is a perfect fit for our facility both in terms of
innovation within sustainability and in terms of commercial potential.”
